Description
Light and airy and fluffy in appearance, the Blue Feathers displays soft blue foliage even into maturity on a narrow pyramidal form with an upright twisting growth habit. A slow grower adding maybe 4 inches in height per year, all grown up you can expect it to reach 10 to 12 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, which is perfect for use as an evergreen accent tree in small garden spaces and containers. Extremely attractive, Blue Feathers lends eye-catching color, texture and form to the landscape composition.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing slowly up to 12 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide over time, the Blue Feathers Hinoki Cypress is ideal for use as an eye-catching accent in small garden spaces, containers and home foundation plantings. Also very nice in small groupings or two can be used to accentuate an entryway, near sitting areas, and other areas where it’s unique foliage can be observed from up close. A fine addition to conifer gardens, Asian themed gardens, blue theme gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).Â
Growing Preferences
The Blue Feathers Hinoki Cypress is very easy to grow in a well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. We suggest at least 4 hours of direct sunlight per day. It is moderately drought tolerant but will appreciate an occasional watering during prolonged periods of dry weather. Otherwise, maintenance is minimal. No pruning is required. Provide a light application of slow release shrub and tree fertilizer in spring.Â
