Description
An easy-to-grow North American native that prefers life on the shady side, Carex laxiculmus ‘Hobb’, commonly known as Bunny Blue Creeping Sedge, is a stunning little evergreen grass-like plant forming a soothing silvery blue arching mound of somewhat wide leaves to 12 inches in height and slowly spreading to maybe 15 to 18 inches wide. Very easy to grow and low-maitenance, Bunny Blue is heat tolerant to USDA Zone 9b, cold tolerant to -20F, and flourishes well under dry shade conditions, which makes it a perfect choice for providing lovely texture and color under the canopies of shade trees and any other shady landscape situations, or as a specimen in smaller garden spaces or a solo or accent in container gardens. The blue foliage contrasts beautifully with hosta lily, heuchera, hardy ferns, Japanese maples and other shade-loving perennials, shrub and trees.Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing12 inches tall and spreading to 15 inches wide or so, Bunny Blue Carex is ideal for use as an accent in smaller garden spaces or containers or in groupings or as a border in large spaces or along paths and walkways. It is an excellent alternative to Blue Fescue for shady locations such as under large shade trees, under decks and other shady areas. A fine addition to ornamental grass gardens, woodland gardens, Asian and Zen theme gardens, rain gardens and blue theme gardens.Â
Spacing:Â 15 inches apart for solid groupings or borders; 24 inches or more apart for space between plants

Growing Preferences
Bunny Blue Sedge is very easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil and part shade to deep shade. Tolerates dry shade conditions when established however does prefer a moist soil when exposed to more sun. Also tolerates occasional wet periods. Avoid direct sunlight during the midafternoon hours. Very little, if any maintenance is required. Though evergreen, plants can be cut back to the ground after winter if desired to encourage a flush of all new foliage.
