Description
Excellent for both the ornamental landscape and the fruit garden, ‘Cabernet Splash’ is a one-of-a-kind highbush Blueberry sporting deep cabernet-wine-colored foliage and abundant, wonderfully contrasting clusters of bell-shaped, bright-white flowers in spring. Equally abundant delicious blueberries follow the flowers. As the season progresses the foliage transitions to a dark green overlaid with cabernet before finally to a blazing, fire-red to close the season in fall. At 3 to 4 feet tall and equally as wide, Cabernet is a fine accent in smaller garden spaces or serves as a colorful grouping or hedge where space allows. It is also excellent for growing in containers that can be situated on or around patios and other outdoor living spaces for easy picking and eating right off the bush. It is hardy in USDA Zones 4a to 8b.
NOTE:Â Our fruit plants are grown outdoors in containers so they are fully rooted and landscape-ready upon arrival.
Growing Preferences
Blueberry plants grow best in an acidic (pH of 4.8 to 5.2), organically rich, moist, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. The more sun the better for best berry production. The shallow, fibrous roots of blueberry plants like a consistently moist but well-drained soil, which can be provided by a layer of organic mulch. Although blueberries are self-fertile, cross-pollination produces the best fruit crop (larger berries and yields). Therefore, it is best to plant more than one variety that will bloom simultaneously. Blueberry season can be extended by planting early, mid-season, and late varieties. USDA Zones: 4a-8b  Find Your Zone
