Description
This is the rare, single-trunk tree-form version of the ‘Eternal Spring’ Magnolia, an exciting recent and hard-to-find introduction that is a cross between M. laevifolia and M. maudiae ‘Eternal.’ It has a dense and bushy upright rounded canopy atop a single trunk. It is an evergreen magnolia similar in appearance to the Banana Shrub but with larger and way more flowers. Unlike most magnolias, which bloom only at the tips of the stems, this floriferous beauty produces flowers up and down the stems, resulting in an extraordinary profusion of deliciously fragrant, 3 to 3.5-inch semi-double10-petaled white flowers in spring with continued sporadic bloom through summer. You might see a hint of pink at the base of the flowers. The lush, leathery, wavy, deep green leaves are an excellent backdrop to showcase the flowers and remain green throughout the year. A fast grower, when all grown up Eternal Spring can reach a height of 15 to 20 feet tall with a spread of 10 feet wide or so. It is a beautiful small tree that serves as a focal point specimen in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders or home foundation plantings. It is especially lovely around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the dazzling fragrant flowers can be enjoyed from close up.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 15 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide depending on pruning, Eternal Spring Magnolia is ideal for use as a focal point in sunny to partially landscape beds and home foundation plantings. Very lovely near patios, decks, porches, and other outdoor sitting and living spaces where the beautiful flowers and wonderful fragrance can be enjoyed from close up. A fine addition to fragrance gardens, white theme gardens, and cottage gardens.

Growing Preferences
The Eternal Spring Magnolia is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility. It prefers an acid to neutral soil ranging from 5.0 to 7.0 on the pH scale. It grows well in full sun or part shade. We suggest at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily for best flowering and foliage density. In our hot and humid north-central Georgia gardens, we’ve noticed that the foliage is darker green with filtered sun during the midafternoon hours. No pruning is necessary; however, it responds well to pruning for shaping purposes.
