A beautiful evergreen plant for use in shade, woodland and other gardens where a serene mood is desired, Disporopsis pernyi, commonly called Evergreen Solomon’s Seal, is a hardy rhizomatous perennial that will fairly quickly form a lush clump 18 inches or so wide and 15 to 18 inches tall in the garden. From late spring to mid summer, fragrant white flowers with a lemon scent appear in the leaf axils along the arching stems, contrasting nicely with the glossy, dark green leaves. The foliage compliments all other plants nearby and is nice for cutting and use in flower arrangements. Low maintenance and easy to grow, this plant is excellent as an accent plant in partially to heavily shaded small garden spaces or in groupings or massed where space allows. Perfect for Japanese and Zen gardens, or around the garden pond, and will handle dry shade under large trees when established.
