Description
An eye-catching beauty that glows in the landscape, the Gold Cascade Deodar Cedar is a coniferous evergreen with graceful, layered, pendulous and spreading branches clothed in golden to soft yellow-green foliage. The foliage color will depend on the amount of sunlight exposure, being more golden with more sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for the brightest color. Inner needles are a contrasting light blue-green to green. A slower grower adding 6 to 8 inches in size per year, left unpruned it might reach 10 feet or more in height with a similar or wider spread in ideal conditions. A highly attractive specimen that lends head-turning distinguished elegance and color to small to medium sized garden beds, home foundation plantings or large containers.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 10 feet tall and equally as wide, the Gold Cascade Deodar Cedar is ideal for use as an eye-catching specimen in small to medium size garden beds and home foundation plantings. Also nice in medium to large size containers of 18 inches or more in diameter that can be situated on sunny patios, decks and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. Very nice in rock gardens and around garden ponds. A fine addition to conifer gardens, gold or yellow theme gardens, Asian gardens and rock gardens.
Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, the Gold Cascade Deodar Cedar is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility, including loose clay, and full to mostly sun. Established trees are drought tolerant. As with so many other coniferous evergreens, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Good drainage is essential. Exceptionally low maintenance requiring no pruning except to remove a stray or damaged branch. That said, can be pruned annually for size control or shaping purposes. A stray or damaged stem can be removed any time of year.
