Description
Totally living up to its name, ‘Graceful Grace’ is a weeping selection of our North American native Douglas Fir that deserves a special place in the landscape. A robust grower adding 12 to 18 inches in height per year, it forms a whimsical upright pyramid with a slanting upright central leader to 25 feet or more in height and 10 to 15 feet wide at its base. The draping branches are clothed in fern-like fronds of lovely greyish blue green needles with silvery-blue undersides. A magnificent evergreen tree with each specimen being unique in appearance, Graceful Grace is excellent for use in rock or conifer gardens, home foundation plantings, or anywhere in the sunny landscape you want an outstanding focal point. Sure to be a conversation piece!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 25 to 30 feet tall or more in height and 10 to 15 feet wide at its base, the Graceful Grace Weeping Douglas Fir is ideal for use as a focal point specimen in sunny landscape borders or to frame the corners of taller homes. Also nice in spaced groupings with trees spaced at least 15 feet apart, or use two to frame an entrance. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, native gardens, bird gardens and Asian theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â Best as specimen, or use two to frame an entryway, or in spaced groupings at 15 feet or more apart
Growing Preferences
The Graceful Grace Weeping Douglas Fir is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility, including clay and sandy soils, and full sun to light shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soils can be problematic leading to root rot or other harmful plant diseases. So make sure to plant this one in well-drained soil, whether in the ground or in pots. Has high drought tolerance when established. Little if any pruning is needed, except to remove a damaged branch or stem. Improper pruning could destroy the natural and beautiful shape of this tree.
