Description
Living up to its name, the Mountain Beauty is a rare, fantastic dwarf Deodar Cedar, also known as Himalayan Cedar, adored for its beautiful color and naturally graceful form. Adding 4 to 6 inches in size per year, it forms an irregular pyramid 8 to 9 feet tall and 6 to 7 feet wide with pendulous branches with drooping stems clothed in soft-lemon-yellow foliage in spring, maturing to bright green in summer. The foliage color will be more colorful if the tree has six or more hours of direct sunlight daily. Its smaller stature is perfect for smaller garden spaces, containers, and home foundation plantings, where it is sure to be a captivating conversation piece.Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 8 to 9 feet tall and 6 to 7 feet wide at maturity, the Mountain Beauty Deodar Cedar is ideal as a focal point specimen in small to mid-size sunny landscape and garden spaces or home fountain plantings. It is also suitable for growing in containers. It is lovely around boulders and garden ponds and other bodies of water. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, yellow theme gardens, and other Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing:Â 8 feet or more apart for spaced groupings
Growing Preferences
The Mountain Beauty Deodar Cedar is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and six or more hours of sunlight daily. Once established, it is highly drought tolerant. That said, established trees are exceptionally drought tolerant. Constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Good drainage is essential. Some shade is tolerated; however, trees won’t be as full or colorful. Exceptionally low maintenance, it requires no pruning except to remove a stray or damaged branch.
