Description
Persian Spire is a unique selection of the Persian Ironwood tree with an upright, statuesque, columnar to narrow oval form of 25 feet tall and only 8 to 10 feet wide, which makes it ideal for use in tight spaces or as a street tree. It features colorful foliage that emerges purple in spring, gradually transitioning to a handsome deep green by summer. Fall brings an array of yellow, red, orange, and burgundy shades. The 2.5 to 3-inch long and 1.5 to 2-inch wide ovate leaves have coarse, rounded teeth and slightly undulating margins. It produces abundant small flowers in early spring, and although they don’t have petals, the clusters of bright, crimson-red stamens are showy and interesting. Easy to grow in as much sun as you can give it and most any moist but well-drained soil, Persian Spire is a low-maintenance tree that will surely put an exclamation point on the landscape!

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 20 to 25 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide, the Persian Spire Ironwood Tree is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or in rows to line a street, drive, walkway, or property line. Its more narrow habit makes it a good fit in smaller spaces where height is needed. Excellent to frame the corners of taller homes and a fine addition to pollinator gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 15 feet apart for space between trees
Growing Preferences
The Persian Spire Ironwood is exceptionally easy to grow in a variety of soil types, including clay, rocky, and chalky soils ranging from 5.0 to 8.0 on the soil pH scale. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil and full to mostly sun. We suggest 6 hours or more of direct sunlight daily. Maintenance is minimal with no pruning necessary. That said, if you want to expose more trunk the lower branches can be removed to desired height.
