Description
Â
A member of the Gold Collection Helleborus Series, ‘Pink Frost’ is early to begin flowering and blooms over a long period of 8 weeks or more. It features LOADS of upward facing saucer-shaped flowers with multiple muted shades of soft to rosy pink petals perched atop contrasting red stems that rise just above a mound of handsome, silver-veined, deep blue-green leaves. The petals surround a ring of green tublar structures and prominent bright yellow stamens. The long-lasting flowers are excellent for cutting and isplay in floral arrangements or to float in a bowl of water. Pink Frost forms an upright spreading clump to about 14 inches high and 24 or more inches wide over time. Virtually problem-free and exceptionally long-lived nand easy to grow, this delightful winter bloomer thrives in partially to fully shaded garden beds, even under the canopies of large trees, as well as in container gardens for situating on patios, porches, decks and around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. One of those flowering plants that will always have you looking forward to winter!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 12 to 14 inches tall and 2 feet wide or more over time, the Pink Frost Helleborus is ideal for use as an accent in smaller spaces and containers or in groupings, massed as a groundcover in landscape and woodland borders, or as a low border along walkways and paths. Perfect under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don’t think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. A fine addition to shade gardens, winter gardens, beneficial pollinator gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 18 inches apart for mass plantings; 3 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Pink Frost Helleborus is very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. Though Helleborus will tolerate mostly sun in cool-summer climates, we think they look and perform their best with part shade to full shade, which makes them perfect for planting under tall decks, large shade trees and other shady areas. Morning and/or evening sun or all-day filtered sun is fine. Direct afternoon sun, especially in USDA Zones 7 to 9, is not suggested. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
