Description
Sure to put a towering exclamation point on the landscape, ‘Slender Silhouette’ is a tall and narrow fast-growing version of our native Sweetgum tree that can reach a height of 50 to 6 feet tall but is only 4 to 6 feet wide when all grown up. It features the same attractive green leaves as the species that turn to a kaleidoscope of yellow, orange, red, and purple shades in fall. Because it’s drought, heat, cold, and even salt air tolerant, and deer and other pests turn their nose up to it, Slender Silhouette is exceptionally easy to grow. Use it as a focal point specimen or in rows along a walkway, drive, or property line wherever the sun shines for 5 or more hours daily.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a slender column up to 60 feet tall but only 5 to 6 feet wide, the Slender Silhouette Sweetgum is ideal for use as specimen, in groupings, or in rows where height is needed but space is limited. A fine addition to bird and wildlife gardens and native plant gardens.Â
Growing Preferences
The Slender Silhouette Sweetgum tree is exceptionally easy to grow in a wide range of moist but well-drained soils of average fertility. Established trees are drought tolerant. It can be grown in full to part shade. We suggest 5 hours or more of direct sunlight daily. Pruning is unnecessary; however, lower branches can be removed to a desired height to expose more trunk if desired.
