A stunning and disease-resistant Hydrbrid Tea Rose, ‘Sweet Mademoiselle’ begins blooming in late spring with repeat flushes throughout summer and into fall. The large, full-double flowers have up to 40 petals and exude a fruity fragrance. The flower color can vary depending on location and temperature, being dark vibrant pink in mild temperatures and lighter shades in warmer temperatures. The flowers are excellent for cutting and display in a vase or floral arrangement. Sweet Mademoiselle is easy to grow in USDA Zones 5a-11.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, the Sweet Mademoiselle Hybrid Tea Rose is ideal for a specimen, in groupings, or in hedges in sunny landscape and flowering shrub borders. It is so hardy and attractive that we have no problem suggesting it in home foundation plantings. It is a fine addition to rose gardens, fragrance gardens, cutting gardens, cottage gardens, and pink-themed gardens.
Suggested Spacing: 2.5-3 feet apart for hedges; 5 or more feet apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Sweet Mademoiselle Hybrid Tea Rose is easy to grow in moist but well-drained soil with average to high fertility in full sun to partial shade. As with all other roses, to avoid powdery mildew, the morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. Some afternoon shade or filtered sun is okay and might be appreciated in hot summer climates. We suggest 6 hours of direct sunlight daily for the best performance and flowering.
Maintenance is minimal. It does not require pruning or deadheading but can benefit from it. To keep your rose full and bushy from year to year, prune the branches back to about 18 inches above the ground in late winter or early spring. After this hard pruning, your rose will quickly flush out and start blooming with the arrival of warmer spring temperatures. Deadheading spent flowers through the season is unnecessary; however, it will encourage more new buds and flowers.
