Description
A new introduction to the family of native Redbuds, ‘Rise and Shine’ wows with eye-catching color through three seasons. As with other redbuds, this one sports abundant clusters of pea-like bright lavender-purple flowers that nearly cover the bare branches in late winter to early spring. As the flowers fade, heart-shaped canary yellow new leaves emerge, gradually transitioning to chartreuse-green with orange tips. As cooler temperatures arrive in fall, the foliage turns bright orange. A mid-sized, easy-to-care-for tree, Rise ‘N Shine reaches 20 to 25 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide when all grown up. Low-maintenance, Rise ‘N Shine has demonstrated excellent cold, heat, sun, and drought tolerance, and its colorful flowers and color changing foliage provide three seasons of interest in the landscape. It’s one of those trees that always has you looking forward to spring!

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 20 to 25 feet tall and wide, the Rise ‘N Shine Redbud is ideal for use as a focal point specimen or in groupings in sunny or shady landscape or woodland borders. It is also lovely to frame the corners of tall homes and provide beauty and shade around patios, porches, and other outdoor living spaces. It is a fine addition to yellow-theme gardens, native gardens, pollinator gardens, and sunny or partially shaded woodlands.
Suggested Spacing:Â 22 feet or more for space between trees
Growing Preferences
Â
The Rise ‘N Shine Redbud Tree is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and full sun or shade. We haven’t grown this one in a lot of shade, so we’re not sure if shade affects the foliage color. The tree in our gardens receives about 6 hours of direct sunlight from late morning to late afternoon, putting on a spectacular color show. Standing water or constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic.
