Pulmonaria ‘Trevi Fountains’, commonly known as Bethlehem Sage, is a beautiful, super-hardy and very easy-to-grow, shade-loving perennial plant that is adored as much for its spotted evergreen foliage as it is for its pretty flowers. From mid to late spring, large clusters of pink flower buds that open to cobalt-blue, bell-shaped flowers rise just above the beautiful 10-12″ tall by a 2-foot-wide mound of elongated dark green leaves heavily-spotted in silvery-white. Due to the fantastic color and texture of its foliage, we’d still rave about this plant even if it produced no flowers at all. A strong performer that stands up to the heat (Zone 8) and cold (-40F), is deer and powdery mildew resistant, and is also drought tolerant when established in dry shade, Trevi Fountain is perfect for planting in those shady spits under large trees, tall decks, on the east side of the home, and other shady areas that might get some sun in the morning or evening but shade or filtered sun in the afternoon. It partners beautifully with hosta lilies, ferns, heuchera, and other shade-loving perennials.

Growing 10 to 12 inches tall and 20 to 26 inches wide, Trevi Fountain Pulmonaria is ideal for use as an accent in shady small garden spaces or in groupings as a border in garden beds or along paths and walkways. Also excellent as a solo or combined with other plants in containers. A fine addition to shady woodland gardens, butterfly gardens, hummingbird gardens, cottage gardens, and perennial shade gardens.
