One of if not the most cold hardy of Ice Plants, the White Eyed Hardy Yellow Ice Plant, Delosperma basuticum, is cold hardy to -30F. It forms a dense, bright green carpet of thick, rubbery, succulent foliage to about an inch high by 8 to 12 inches wide, which makes it an excellent crevice plant or small-space groundcover or border. In late spring to early summer the foliage becomes smothered with quilled, bright yellow flowers with glowing white centers. Thriving in dry, sandy, or gravelly soil, this hardy perennial succulent requires little to no water once established, which makes it a fine selection as a low border or groundcover, to fill gaps and crevices between stones and boulders, or as a soil cover in container gardens.

Growing 1 to 1.5 inches tall and spreading 8 to 12 inches or so wide, the White Eyed Hardy Yellow Ice Plant is ideal for use as an accent in small garden spaces or as a soil cover in container gardens, or in groupings or massed along the borders of walkways and paths, patios and garden beds. Very nice around rocks and boulders. A fine addition to succulent and cactus gardens, rock gardens, yellow theme gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
