Description
A distinctive and improved Arborvitae, ‘Yellow Ribbon’ is excellent for providing year round showy color and fine texture in the landscape that will not go unnoticed. It forms an upright narrow pyramid 10 to 15 feet tall and only 4 to 5 feet wide at its base that is clothed in soft-textured delicate-looking fans of ribbon-like foliage. New growth in spring emerges orange in spring gradually transitioning to a lovely shade of sunburn-resistant yellow which stands out beautifully against the medium green foliage on the interior. In cool-winter climates the foliage takes on a handsome bronze tint. We suggest at least 6 hours or more of direct sunlight for the best and brightest foliage color. Delicate looking but very tough and easy to grow, Yellow Ribbin is excellent as a specimen, grouping, or in single or staggered rows for a privacy hedge where space is limited.Â
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing naturally in a narrow, pyramidal shape 10 to 15 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at its base, the Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a privacy hedge in sunny landscape borders. Also excellent as an accent or to frame the corners of homes and other building or use to to frame an entrance. Can also be grown as a colorful centerpiece in container gardens. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, yellow theme color gardens and formal gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 2 feet apart for solid hedge;Â 5 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
The Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae is easy to grow and care for in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and full to mostly sun for the brightest foliage color. Has moderate drought tolerance when established but does not like a constantly soggy or waterlogged soil. So make sure to choose a well-draining site for planting. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required. That said, it responds well to shearing for a more tight, formal look.
