Description
As its name suggests, Thuja plicata ‘Zebrina Extra Gold’ is much like its parent, but with enhanced, brighter golden-yellow foliage. It produces shimmering, feathery, aromatic, dark green foliage striped with zebra-like, bright, golden-yellow bands. Retaining its foliage color throughout the year, the tree appears as a glowing tall pyramid from a distance, reaching 25 to 30 feet in height and 10 to 12 feet in width at its base over time. The foliage color is brightest when it gets six or more hours of sunlight per day. Definitely not your typical Arborvitae, Zebrina Extra Gold, also commonly known as a Western Red Cedar, is sure to be a standout and conversation piece as a specimen, grouping, or privacy screen in the landscape, or to frame the corners of tall homes and other buildings.

Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 25 to 30 feet tall and 10 to 12 feet wide at maturity, the Zebrina Extra Gold Arborvitae is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in sunny to lightly shaded landscape and woodland borders. It also serves well in privacy screen plantings or to frame the corners of tall homes and other buildings. It can also be grown in large pots, though it may eventually need to be transplanted to the landscape. It is a fine addition to conifer gardens, native plant gardens, yellow-themed gardens, and rock gardens.
Spacing:Â Â 7 to 8 feet apart for solid privacy screen; 15 or more feet apart for space between trees
Growing Preferences
The Zebrina Extra Gold Arborvitae is easy to grow in moist, well-drained soil of average fertility and six or more hours of sunlight daily for the brightest foliage color. Somewhat drought tolerant when established, but will appreciate supplemental water during prolonged periods of summer drought. No pruning is necessary.
